Rustin, The Holdovers, Saltburn and a host of other awards hopefuls will be part of the lineup at the 11th Middleburg Film Festival, which will run Oct. 19-22, fest organizers have announced.
Rustin, a Netflix biopic of civil rights activist Bayard Rustin that was directed by George C. Wolfe and stars Colman Domingo, will open the four-day fest on Oct. 19. Wolfe will be feted with the fest’s Impact Award “in recognition of his artistic achievement and determination to bring this important and long-overlooked story to the screen.”
The Holdovers, a Focus dramedy that reunites Sideways filmmaker Alexander Payne and star Paul Giamatti, will play as the fest’s centerpiece film on Oct. 21. Payne will be in attendance to collect the Director Spotlight Award.
Additionally, Emerald Fennell, the writer/director of Saltburn, will collect the fest’s Agnès Varda Trailblazing Film Artist Award; composer Michael Giacchino will receive its Distinguished Composer Award at a tribute concert performed by the Louden Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Kim Kluge; and there will be a Film Diplomacy Panel convened in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State, which will host a delegation of top Ukrainian filmmakers.
